Turismo do Porto e Norte de Portugal

Douro region, involving from the border the great river of the north of Portugal, was historically closer to the Christian influence of the archbishopric of Braga.
This factor, coupled with the higher rurality of this famous wine zone (Oporto wine producer), did not allow the existence of so many Jewish Communities as in Alentejo or Serra da Estrela.

Still, Lamego owned one of the two largest Jewish communities between the rivers Douro and Tejo (the other was in Covilhã, Serra da Estrela).
The most representative Jewish centers of Douro region corresponded beyond the city of Lamego, Torre de Moncorvo, Vila Flor, Freixo de Espada à Cinta, Vila Real and S. João da Pesqueira.
